How is the community of Southwest Houston?

Asked by Movinon, 77071 Wed Jul 7, 2010

(Greater Fondren) in terms of children having what to do, and where to go. (Parks, playgrounds, Museums?).
What about safety, cleanliness etc. The star reviews on this area look pretty bad. Are they accurate?

I am a real estate broker in the Houston area and I am very familiar with that part of Houston. I would have to say that the reviews are just opinions. If you have children I would recommend you research the following areas for schools. Katy ISD or Fort Bend ISD. Most people travel inside the loop to the museum district to visit most the museums. There are plenty of things throughout the city for children to do. You can use the following site to search different areas. If you need more detailed information you can email me at with your questons and I will be glad to assist you.

For any safety related issues, your best source of information is the local police department, why not visit/call and ask all your questions, hear all firsthand. If you are not familiar with the area, do visit the neighborhood several times and at different times of day to get a sense of belonging. Check out area statistics; real estate professionals are prohibited from “steering”—enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods; so, you should check out demographics on your own to assure your comfort level can be reached.

There are great research tools for looking at the quality of life for an area. Crime and schools are usually high on peoples list. You can look up the crime stats for an area at or I think HAR has the best school search tool. The Houston Chronicle puts an entire city market analysis by neighborhood in April. It will tell you if an area is going up or down in values.
