Does your credit score have to be 620 or better to be approved for a home loan?

My credit score greatly declined due to hospital bills and student loans.

Your question was asked almost two years ago. By now perhaps you have had the opportunity to take steps to improve your credit score. If you are interested in securing a mortgage, please contact me and I'll recommend some excellent lenders.

it would be best for you to check with a local mortage lender to answer your question. i believe there has been some lenders offering financing on 620 and greater. on the 620 though guidelines are narrowed. if you need any names of lenders let me know.

Not always but it certainly helps. Some lenders have a 640 cut off, some 620 and you might find a few that are lower. Regardless, make sure you understand what terms and fees you'll be paying and whether the increased costs of the mortgage are worth it to you.
