I live in Windcrest, and think it's one of the hidden gems of San Antonio. City hall is responsive, solvent and engaged.

When Windcrest was "born" 50 years ago, it was outside San Antonio. Now the city has grown around it, but the small town atmosphere remains

Speed limits throughout the city are no higher than 30 mph on any street, and on most streets, only 20. Many of us use our streets for walking and jogging.

Takas Park at the city's western edge has tennis courts, a children's playground and softball fields. All are kept in good condition. Private tennis courts in excellent condition and a public swimming pool are inside the city.

Homes are available for almost any budget, and as I look around they seem a bargain.

Our location at the intersection of 410 and I-35 makes it near almost every place in San Antonio. Traffic during rush hour on these roads isn't fun, but it's better than I-10, 281 or I-35 north of Windcrest.

If you're retired military, Windcrest certainly deserves a look, as we're half-way between Fort Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force Base.

If I had my druthers, I'd live in the woods with no one around within a hundred miles. My wife is more sociable, so we live in a city. We could do a lot worse than Windcrest. Give it a look.

Windcrest is a good location, and has some of the better schools in the NEISD. You can get more information about the city through the "Area Info" links on my Web site. Look for the "County and Municipal Governments" link and scroll down to the Windcrest link on the page that opens. The info on the city Web site covers a wide range of topics that will orient you to the area.

Let me know if I can be of further help.

I understand that currently there are some investment opportunities in the Windcrest area. One HUGE thing to watch for is the development and growth of the local area due to the new addition of Rack Space opening up an office over there. Windcrest is a great subdivision with some huge potential coming up on the rise.
