Yes - but I suppose that would depend on what you consider affordable. There are waterfront properties in just about all price ranges. A good example is here: http://www.tampahouse1.com/waterfront_beachfront_homes.html

Trulia Tampa,
This is an interesting question. First of all, Pinellas, Manatee and Sarasota counties all have coast lines along the Gulf of Mexico. Thus, a Bay view would be facing east, possible west looking over a smaller body of water to the Gulf of Mexico. Thus a Gulf view would offer sunset waterview. A bay view offers a water view.

What do you want to look at? Some water views occur after a heavy rain. Some water views are available if you stand close to the exterior window and turn your head sharply in one direction or lean over the balcony railing. Or the water view is at the treeline and the palm fronds and tree branches obstruct the direct view which could be seen shifting back and forth as the wind blows the leaves.

Interpretation of a "water view" launches the imagination to dream of a stretch of a beautiful relatively isolated white sand beach with long waterview towards the horizon that is awash of a palette of rainbow colors at sunset.

Typically, the older condominium buildings, older homes, sometimes, manufactured homes have the best locations and views. Thus, a buyer is torn between a small dated home vs a newer home. Many 55+ communities have terrific locations, but, the age restrictions limit enjoyment access.

Affordability is relative to the buyer's pocketbook. Define affordable. Basically you get what you pay for. The number one rule in real estate is location, location, location.

If you are okay with being outside Tampa, you might try Hernando Beach.

Also if you need a mortgage, expect to put a large down if you are planning to buy a condo.

Your Realtor can give you a Listingbook account to search. It will have the most detailed info and will distinguish between genuinely available properties versus those that are not available and "active with contract".

If you are financially ready (cash or preapproval letter) you're welcome to sign up for a free Listingbook:

These homes, the ones with natural attributes like beach front, walk to beach and big water views will be the first to show value appreciation. We are seeing these prices increasing and inventory staying very low. Under contract at this time is a big water view of Boca Ciega bay. Big water 3/2 condo overlooking Boca Ciega just received a contract Monday night. Those buyes relying on 'luck' to be a significant part of their buying strategy are seeing the homes they want pruchased by those who are making purchase offers based on the statistics.

If you are looking for that big water home, give a call.
Don't use that 'contact' button.
Don't use Trulia email.
Go old school and pick up the phone and call, if you are serious.

It depends on what you consider affordable, doesn't it? You can find waterfront homes in St. Petersburg and Tampa from $150K on up! I've attached a link to some.
