Well isnt that interesting. What about vacant farm houses. Rent these if they are large properties? Hunting property lease? Cant build permanent but may be able to plop down a portable? Wilderness property rental? Seen cabins and such on the cheap. Of course could take the whole operation to MO, IN or somewhere with considerable less population density. Like to stay in Illinois if possible though. How about not actually buying all those acres but securing a plot backed up against a forrest or largely unihabited state park such as Shawnee? Also I recollect reading something about governmental land rentals on isolated government property. Cabins and such that looked pretty frugal. Have any experience with these? Well I think Ill definitely interface with a realtor on this. Any leads on such a realtor that may focus on this microcosm? THX! ... more

True, qualified buyers = 0%

If you were making such an important purchase, would you search via a few abbreviated text lines in the paper, or online where you can search, sort, view photos, virtual tours, maps etc at no cost?
and before it comes up... I know not every person in the U.S. has internet access, but in the very, very low probability scenario that someone searching for a home does not.. that is what family and Realtors are for.

You will note.. the comment below refers to an open house visit, not a buyer, which is consistent with the theme that those looking through the paper are casual browsers.

Homes are selling but the market is sluggish. The homes in the lower price ranges are selling best, the mid-range homes, maybe $65,000 to $85,000 are also selling well if they are clean, maintained and the price is correct. If you plan to put a home on the market be sure to clean thoroughly and be prepared to keep the lawn mowed and have the home in showing condition on short notice. Washing windows is something that makes a big improvement in any price range, let the sunshine in! The more expensive homes, like $200,000 and above are taking longer, more days on market to sell.

Thanks for the inquiry!

There are some nice apartments in Oneida, the owners live out of state, they have a manager I believe or at least a person who could help you, her name is "Missy" but I don39;t have her phone # off hand. If you call Todd Nelson, 309-879-2306 and tell him who you are looking for and why - I believe he has her #.
Good Luck,

Jo Whitlatch answered:
Hi Susan,
Of course the obvious source of available rentals would be to look in the local newspaper; however, have you tried calling a real estate office? Even if there are no rentals available right now, if you give them your name, contact number, and preferences (# bedrooms, price, etc), when something does come up, they can call you. I'd be happy to take this information and keep a look out for you.
