We were told by almost everyone we asked that we couldn't own a home for at least 1-2 years after a short sale. Well, we just closed escrow today after having to sell our home in 2/08. We tried and tried getting our then lender to keep their promise to modify our loan only to be stuck with empty promises and a defaulted loan. I kept all my correspondence to/from them--this was my saving grace. After still being declined by several banks, a preferred lender did the right thing by taking the time to review all the facts and realized we did everything we were supposed to do and approved us for an FHA loan. My advice, don't believe everything you hear and DONT take NO for an answer.
