state that they want to get a loan for the amount we are going to pay. They have 3 liens on the house and they are just trying to buy time. What aremy options?

If they already signed a purchase agreeement than you could get an attorney to draft a letter or go after specific performance in court. they are already in over there heads so they may thing they have nothing to loose. this is one reason why 19 out of 20 short sales dont close. unfortanately you do need teh sellers cooperation to mak ethe short sale work. your best bet is talk to the listing agent and consult a lawyer who may be able to help you.
