How can I find the name of the person who bought a house in a Foreclosure Sale?

Asked by T. Opil, Orland Park, IL Sun Feb 8, 2009

I am a Board Member of a very small homeowner association. A house in our subdivision was sold via Foreclosure sale early last year (approx April or May 2008). The Annual Dues for 2008 were unpaid. We would like to collect the portion of the Annual Dues from the buyer for the months after they bought the home. The house is still vacant, and we do not know who bought the home. One of our neighbors says the home was purchased by a company that buys/sells foreclosed homes. How can we find the name of the buyer? The home is located in Orland Park IL (Cook County).

Hello T. Opil,

You can go to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds, if the property is in Cook County. You can look up the info easiest by a pin # search.

To get the Pin #, you can go to the Cook County Assessor's Website. Go to the Online Tools tab and select residential property search. Enter the address and city.

Information on these sites if fairly up to date and rapidly updated in my experience.

If the Buyer is a LLC or Corp., you can go to the IL Secretary of State's website and do an LLC search to get contact info.

Best of Luck.

A home owner's identity is a matter or public record. You should be able to obtain this information by accessing your county tax records and doing an "address search."

Good luck
