Student Renters (UTD)

Asked by alexandra, Richardson, TX Mon May 6, 2013

My friends and I who are seniors at UT Dallas are looking to rent a home or apartment. We need a 3 bed/2bath apartment or home.

Is there anyone who will rent to students? We are not a liability, and we all work and have had no problem paying our rent for the last 4 years.

Hello,

There are landlords that will rent to students. The main things a landlord will look at will be your credit, any foreclosures or bankruptcy, any criminal background, and the amount of income you have coming in. Normally landlords want your total income to be three times the amount of the monthly rent. I would be more than happy to help you and your roommates find a place. I was a student looking to rent with roommates about two years ago and we found a place and did not have any issues. I would be more than happy to help find you guys a place, so feel free to give me a call, email, or text anytime!

That's awesome! Congratulations on being seniors! If you and your fellow room-mates have great rental history, that is definitely going to help your chances. Most Property Management companies for homes have stricter criteria then apartment complex's. BUT, you do get more freedom and privacy when leasing a Home. So be prepared to have your credit checked, and criminal. So if you have taken out student loans in your name your credit might not be that strong, typically you will have to put up a double deposit or have a guarantor if that's the case.
I hope this has helped! I wish you all the best of luck!

Yes landlords will most definitely rent to college students, especially of you have great rental history. Please give me a call and I can send you some homes listed for lease in your price range and with your criteria.

Feel free to give me a call at 469-371-2899 and we can discuss. I see no problem in renting if you have been paying on time. Of course there will be other criteria that landlord will look at. What is your price range?
