I file exempt on property taxes because of my disability. After I sell my home, and buy a new one, am I able to still file exempt on the new home?

Make sure you purchase a entire brick home. No vinyl siding. Also, see if home has storm windows or protection for the windows in the event of a storm. Finally, look at the number of BIG trees in the yard and how close they are to the house. ... more

Cheap. $300 to $400 a year. But make sure you apply for homestead at the court house. If you do not apply your cost will double.

depends on what side of hwy 98 you live on and if your in a flood plan. However, I think the average cost is around $1,800 to $2,500 depending on sqft. Also, depends on how much you are willing to cover first. Most people do 2%, but I have seen coverage as high as 10% for deductible. ... more

I agree with the reasons outlined by Bill, but I also think location is a factor.

It is in a nice area, especially if you want to be near town but not too close. That results in lot prices being a little less than what you might find closer into town.

This area is nice because it is also convenient to the schools. Head north to Hwy. 98 and east one street to be at the elementary school. Or turn east much sooner to go a few streets over to get to the high school and intermediate school, all without having to deal with traffic on Hwy. 59.

Are you working with a Realtor to assist you in your home search? If not, give me a call so we can get started. There's no reason to go it along and a ton of reasons it's in your best interest not to. I'd be honored to be your advocate throughout the home buying process.

Look for an agent with either the SFR or the CDPE designation or both. They have special training in short sales and foreclosure homes.

You would really need to contact an Insurance Agent to obtain a quote. The ultimate cost of the policy will depend on the specific home that you purchase. Location and the age of the home/roof play large roles in the annual premium.

Thanks, Larry, for emphasizing the importance of working a real estate deal through a Realtor. There are so many details to be figured out, with issues related to financing being the biggest.

Having someone to coordinate efforts with the lender of your choice is key. The more professionals you have working on your behalf, the better.

I would obviously love to be that Realtor. As you can see from the recommendations under my profile, I work tirelessly to help a deal happen if possible. In fact, my newest recommendation is from a local loan manager with whom I worked very closely to pull together a deal that had several obstacles, but we worked as a team and closed last week.
