5 years after discharge date. possible sooner if you can show that you have had no late payments of ANY KIND, and that you have re-built your credit score to 640 or greater and you have at least 3 lines of credit

btw, there is NEVER a good reason for chapter 7

Margaret, after two years, some lenders will consider the VA loan with a good reason for the chapter 7. You should be fine after 3 even without a good reason.
