They will put a lien on your home and if it's not paid off at one point they'll simply have you evicted and the property sold for the taxes you owe. When a lien is filed it triggers all sorts of penalty fees as well. If you're having problems paying your taxes my advise is to contact the IRS directly and set up a payment plan with them, They'd much rather work something out with you than have to take legal proceedings against you.
taxes are the FIRST things you want to pay...the government can place a lien on your property, and eventually sell the property at auction. There are obviously steps in this process. They can also report you to credit agencies, which is a KILLER as well.
Bottom line, no good thing happens. Do yourself a favor, don't fall behind in the taxes...
Your local government can put a lien on your home, which will prevent you from selling the property until the lien is paid. Also, if the bill grows large or enough time elapses without payment, the property can be auctioned.
I hope this is helpful!

If you have a home in Fort Lauderdale and you do not pay your property tax, the Federal government does not do anything. However, the county, to whom you pay those taxes, will not be pleased. They will place a tax lien on your property and eventually, if you don't pay those taxes, your home will be auctioned to someone who will gladly pay those taxes and you will no longer have control of the property. Do yourself a favor and pay your taxes.
