Kellie, you may be able to find a townhome, or more likely a condo, in the $60,000-$80,000. They are relatively rare so you would be wise to take up Robert's offer below or work with the mortgage officer of your choice to get a pre-approval. This document will show the seller that you are able to afford the house.

I should warn you that this price point will be competitive on all homes thus you may find you are competing with multiple offers. I can help steer you through the process to closing!!

My name is Robert H. Ashburner, Jr. NMLSR 607856 I am a loan officer with Monarch Mortgage http://www.choosebobby.com so I cannot speak to the availability of house at any price, because I am not a real estate agent.

You may want to check out http://www.gatewayatsono.com/ if you are looking for a deal. Beyond that you may want to contact Don Maclary at http://www.chooseahomenow.com for updated local listing information

It is a passion of mine to work with first time home buyers. To help many first time home buyers I also work with most of the local housing authorities including Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA.)

Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority offers first time home buyers down payment and closing cost assistance.

I am not currently up to date with the amount of assistance CRHA is offering in 2013. In the past CHRA has offered up to $15,000.00 in down payment and closing cost assistance to first time home buyers.

To find out what they are currently offering contact CRHA at https://www.crhava.org/.

The community bank I work for Monarch Bank / Mortgage is a local lender that works with the Federal Home Loan Bank systems that offers grants up to $5,000.00 for first time home buyers so long as they qualify based on income and credit restrictions.

So if you work at putting all of the pieces of the puzzle together you may be able to make it work. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

That's probably a little ambitious for the Greenbrier neighborhood. The lowest priced townhouse that sold this past year was $105,000.
I do see a handful of townhouses $40-80,000 in 23320, if you'd like to contact me for that list.
However, a buyer of something priced like that should be prepared for major renovation.
Good luck! KK German, Wainwright Real Estate

Unfortunately, I do not believe you will be able to find anything in the Greenbrier area for $60,000 - 80,000. You may find something for 125 - 150. I would be happy to assist you in your search. Feel free to contact me at anytime.
