How long does it take the FHA take to close an old case number?

Asked by Hillysuze, Pittsburgh, PA Sun Dec 12, 2010

Posted on the Home Buying board as well...

At least 6 months ago, there was a buyer on the property on the house we are trying to close on. The previous buyer decided to walk away but like us, was using a FHA loan.

The appraisal on the house has since expired but the case number hasn't been closed and from what I understand, there cannot be 2 case numbers on the same property.

We are supposed to close Friday and crossing my fingers that we do so. Does anyone have experience with this? Everything else with the loan process is complete but an appraisal cannot be done until the case number is closed. Does anyone have any advice? This little hiccup has killed our weekend.

Hi Hill, When the First buyers deal didn't go thru the bank was supposed to put it in as closed so that the problem your having now with 2 case number wouldn't exist. This 2 case numbers according to FHA has to be resolved quickly so we've been told. Make sure your mortgage rep. is on this. FHA right now with 2 case numbers it appears as if 2 different parties are trying to buy the same house this is why the delay it must be fixed. Don't worry we're sure it will happen soon for you.

All the Best

Case numbers are usually closed after 6 months as well if the loan is inactive.
