Can someone describe the process for a condo association to obtain a FHA approval/certification? What unit at FHA or HUD processes the submissions?

Asked by Indigovillage, Southport, NC Sun Jan 16, 2011

Our development consists of 32 units under a Declaration of Condominium that goes back to 1986. We don't appear on the FHA Approved List but have not has any problems in getting FHA loans approved other than having to ask the set of questions from lenders. We have been told that we have until 5/31/2011 to get "approved" We would prefer to submit the application ourselves to avoid the cost of using an intermediary, but can't find the right department/location to contact to get started. Names, locations, web addresses would be appreciated.

Hello,

Gathering & sending all of the required paperwork to HUD in Atlanta, GA is a cumbersome process. The turn around time for approval is a minimum of 2 to 3 months.

We are DELRAP approved which means that we can side step sending all of information to Atlanta; our approval turn time is approximately 1 to 2 weeks once all of the documentation is received. I would be happy to help you facilitate this process if you're open it.

Regards,
Andrew
