Deeds do not necessarily mean anything, for many different reasons. Do you think your grandmother and mother actually owned the land at the time of their deaths? If so, do you know whether the property was encumbered by any debt? If they owned the land and it was not over-encumbered with debt than you probably need to contact an attorney to start a probate for your mother (or maybe even one for the grandmother. It might also be a good idea to contact an attorney earlier to help you answer those ownership questions. If those deeds have tax id numbers it might help you research who owns the land now (or at least who the county thinks owns the land).

Keep in mind there are many reasons the property might not be in your family. A sale subsequent to those deeds would be the most likely reason.

This is a legal question which would probably require review of documents specific to the complex, but note that in most of these I think only one of the two spouses needs to be over the required age. It may also be possible for someone younger to inherit an interest. If it's a big concern, ask the association and/or consult an attorney. ... more

Be mindful that such web sites are third party sites, so the information is fed by various sources, therefore data is not really verified. If you choose not to work with an agent of your own always verify ownership before exchanging any money/personal information--make certain they are who they claim to be. Never wire any money, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. For scam related information see link.

Jirius Isaac answered:

Dan gave you the right answer below. If you are in the market for a home you should hire your own broker to work on your behalf.

I would suggest, that as a buyer, you Google every agent that responds to your question here on Trulia, learn as much as you can about who they are online, read their client testimonials, so you know what their clients are saying about them, and then give us each a call and just ask us why we think you should work with us instead of another agent. This will take you a little while to do, but will be time well spent, as choosing the right agent is the first step towards choosing the right home. Then, pick the best fit for you and let them go to work for you with the skill and knowledge that they have. I hope to hear from you soon.

Good luck to you in any case

Brandon also made a good point to be careful about scams on Craigslist. I have also found them on and other sites, too. Always make sure you know who the owner is and that the property is not in default. When we represent tenants in our Tenant Advocacy Program (TAP,) we thoroughly check out the property and owner as well to ensure that our client is not getting into a scam type of deal.
