Speak to an attorney is the best advice you can get. A lease is a legal document and I don't necessarily agree with the landlord who suggested not going to court as it ""will look bad" It's not going to look bad if you win.

That said it may or may not make sense for you to stay where you're not wanted, but it's possible that a call or letter from an attorney letting your landlord know that if he doesn't pay you to leave willingly that he can expect to be taken to court may get you some moving money. I hope things work out for you.

It must get pretty uncomfortable down there! Seriously, landlords are usually most concerned with your ability to pay your bills in a timely manner. Regardless of how you receive your pay, a good credit rating and your ability to come up with the first, last and a damage deposit should support your cause.

You should really be working with a rental professional who can best advise you locally. It's illegal to discriminate against anyone with section 8 but you really shouldn't lead with that info.
