Put the complaints in writing and mail it to them. You are protected under California Civil Code Section 1927. Be mindful that this is a law that your complex has to adhere to. Also, know that not all things stated in a lease are enforceable or are limited to what is in the lease. The law supersedes. Everybody has a right to quiet enjoyment. If it is not quiet and the landlord does nothing, record it, have others witness it, call the building inspector to see if corners were cut with insulation, and sue in small claims. You can sue for the value of the apartment being less than fair market value related to noise and lack of enjoyment, all moving costs, emotional distress, etc. ... more

Find a good real estate agent. They should be able to steer you toward some great web sites that give information on schools and crime in the area. Also, many states will provide information on sex offenders that may be living in the area. Splurge and take a two day vacation at a local hotel. Walk around town. Check out the coffee shops and restaurants. Talk to people. Its worth the time to justify the investment! ... more

Cordelia, Green Valley and Rancho Solano are nice communities to the northern side of Fairfield.
Cordelia can be very windy should you decide to relocate there. Just 10 minutes away in Green/Suisun Valley you will find a small microclimate similar to weather in Napa except less Fog in winter. There is no noise that I am aware of from the trains. Occasionally you see airplanes from Travis flying over and typically they are high enough there is no noise. This area off Highway 80 is a great location for commuting to SF/East Bay or Marin. ... more

Hello Alex,

Close proximity to the air base may be beneficial for some, and not others. Each buyer is different and needs to find something that fits their needs as this is a huge financial investment. If you are looking for homes near or away from the base, I can look up some properties for you that might fit your needs.

Please feel free to call or email me if you would like to view anything in person.

James Meyer answered:
When buying to rent out, you also need to think about the future.
If a condo is cheap now it could be because the complex is not approved for FHA financing.
When you go to sell, if that is still the case, this will limit your ability to sell. The best bet usually is to invest in a single family home. A lot of investors seem to agree that Fairfield and the rest of Solano County is a great place to invest, since the cash investors are tripping over each other and making it very difficult for first time buyers to find a home.
Also, is your Realtor hiding short sales from you ? If you have the patience to wait it out, you might get a better place than you thought you could. Make sure you are looking at REO's , short sales , "flip " houses and traditional sales. Good luck.
