RiverCity CDC is a GREAT place to start! There is a grant program for our area, and they can help you get your credit to where it needs to be, in many cases. If you qualify, there are funds available to assist with a downpayment. With rents being so high in E. City.....and mortgage rates being so is CRAZY to keep paying rent! Good luck, I hope this helps!!

Your credit score is great! If you are not already working with a Lender, we have a couple that we like to use that are very familiar with this area. Depending on your personal situation - whether you are looking for an investment or a Primary Residence, there are some great lending packages available. Elizabeth City has plenty of properties on the market and lots of new businesses coming in. (TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby....), we are an hour from the Outer Banks beaches, easy drive to VA and is home to one of the largest Coast Guard Bases. ... more

Rent to own is really not a good idea, therefore consider fixing whatever is preventing you from purchasing outright. Rent to own can be risky and one could stand to lose a bit of money, it favors the owner; therefore inform yourself well in advance of your search, and consider consulting with an attorney who specializes in real estate before considering the idea and or before signing any agreement. If you haven't done so yet, visit with any licensed loan officer, see if you can buy outright, or simply continue renting until a purchase can be made. ... more

The closest beach to Eliz City is on the Outer banks and is about 1.3 hours east. Kitty Hawk would be the closest by car.

Ask your agent for more information about the reason why you need a renovation loan. He or she should be able to explain this to you. Sometimes what appears to be cosmetic may cause structural problems as Lisa Harrell explained in her answer. Again, your agent and loan officer should be able to explain why this particular house needs to have renovations completed before anyone occupies it. ... more

You will not find those here and I bet you won't find many there either. You should call a local real estate company there and ask. You might have to call many because finding rent to owns is not easy since there will not be many of them because they rarely work and sellers don't want to fool with them. I have not seen one over here in the Outer Banks area in the last 12 years - not one. ... more

Price per square foot is a good way to compare property values that ARE COMPARABLE:

But you cannot compare a 1200 sqft Fixer REO that is at $95/sqft with a beautiful newer 5/3 regular sale at $175/sqft and say one is a better buy than the other.

Statistics are intended to help us; once they are misused or abused, they become worthless.

Good luck and may God bless
