Since you specifically mentioned the West Houston area, I have two client with several search (their own Gateway on my HAR website) that daily show any new homes, sold homes, or price changes in the area running from Hwy. 6 to and including 99 north and or south of the West Park Tollway and activity has picked up with sold as well as homes on the market having price increases. Obviously homes sites (lots) in the master planned communities are a limited quantity and when those are gone, the homes for sale will have higher value in the days to come. Yet, the builders are currently offering great discounts on their finished inventory! Soooo, great locations with an array of builders and floor plans!

But do get pre-approved to see what your limits are, and check out those low interest rates!
Ask your Realtor, Bank or Credit Union to find out what loan products are best for you.

There is so much good inventory out there to choose from! Decide what part of town you want to be in and find you a Buyer's Agent who will create a personlized search of homes for you to choose from.
