I see this is an old post, but for anyone else reading it, I have some opinions to share. Everything in life is mindset. If you expect Spanish to be a barrier, it will be. However, I was born and raised here and though I am not proud to say it, I still don't know it hardly at all (I can't converse in it!) because I almost never have to speak it. You will be fine. I actually want to learn it better. It's the perfect opportunity, where else can you go and try to converse in a different language and go back to your native language when you get in over your head. LOL

Regarding safety. I just moved from back from a long stint in Indiana and there were parts of Indianapolis (where I spent many years) that I felt more threatened than any places I have visited here in El Paso.

In summary, I am certain that you will find El Paso quite welcoming. There are many people from many places due to the base. There is a lot of wonderful food and culture here. It's not like any other place.

Melly,

Often the best resource for information on crime and safety is the local police department or county sheriff's department. They have access to the most current and accurate information and are generally very willing to be helpful.

Good luck,

Bill

As you can see from all the replies it echoes and sounds off that El Paso is the 2nd safest city. We hear about the horrors just like you do. In addition to your question you might also ask which is closest to which gate. Main gate to Biggs is the Eastside and many communities are just minutes away. Main gate to front of Bliss is the Northeast and many communities in a 10 minute range. Beaumont is closest to the Northeast side. And many love the over the mountain drive to Bliss which is about 20 minutes away. So to the question of location, where will you be working, what are you interest in schools and hobbies. I am confident you will find just the right location at the right price with the right home. Call or email anytime and we can discuss your specific needs furtherWishes for God’s best to you and yours in every way each and every day!

Howdy Cyndi, this answer is from Cynthia but I certainly have been called Cyndi a lot. Your police department is your best source for an exact answer to this question. However Scottsdale is a established neighborhood and boasts Album park -one of the best parks in El Paso and is home to the Eastwood Troopers which has a large loyal alumni that insist on their kids going there and even their grandkids. Perhaps this says something about the area. In addition to the police report you can also observe the condition of a particular street you are interested in, especially on the weekends to have a better idea of the area. El Paso is the 2nd safest city in the US of the same size and population criteria and we hear the same news reports you hear while many of us still leave doors unlocked and have neighbors that become family. Going to Mexico is not a consideration and we sincerely pray for the poor people in Mexico, especially those that do not have resources to leave.. I hope I have answered your question satisfactorily. So are you looking to buy or rent and how can I help you? Call or email any time.
Wishes for God’s best to you and yours in every way each and every day!
