We are a real estate search engine so we don't represent the homes found on our site. Please follow these steps to begin your home search:

In todays market you may be better off buying a townhome instead of going with a rent-to-own agreement.
The problem with the rent to own arrangement is
1) you have to find a willing seller who will agree to sell you his home after a few years for a price agreed upon today, so you are taking a buyer's market and making it a seller's market , if any seller agrees to this you can be sure he will ask for a higher price than you would like to pay
2) you will have to pay a premium of somewhere in the range of $7000 to $9000 depending on the price of the townhouse, which you will have to pay upfront for the benefit of having the rent-to-own option
3) the house price may fall, and if it does you will lose your entire premium and have no house.

A better alternative would be to buy the townhouse straight away, with the inventory on the market, this is certainly a buyer's market so you are going in knowing that you are getting a 20%-30% discount on prices as compared to their peak around 2005.

You can finance your purchase using a FHA loan and get a 3.5% downpayment and with today's historically low rates, you can definitely get more house for your money.

Finally you will be saving on rent and building your equity by buying a house.

The information found on a rental listed with a RE agency should not differ if found on other website portals such as and is being advertised by the Broker. However, I have found that at times changes to listings are not reaching these portals properly or in a timely fashion and so, therefore, there may be discrepancies.

Some rental websites allow the owners to directly advertise and, therefore, a Realtor may not have any knowledge of the property, unless, of course you direct them to the listing and they call the owner direct stating they have a potential renter and they will bring them along for a fee.

To serve your best interests, certainly contact a Realtor for what is available through the multiple listing system, stop by some agencies within say a 2 mile radius of a particular area of interest to see if they have an "exclusives" (as mentioned earlier some agencies don't advertise rentals on the MLS) and keep abreast of owner advertising (Craigslist is a good source).

If you factor in how many of the rentals are being offered where the landlord is willing to pay or split the commission that would add to the affordability factor for many folks.

If a rental is listed with an agency and the landlord is not willing to at least split the agents commission, take a pass on the property. Chances are the landlord will be a cheap hard case when it comes to fixing and addressing issues with you and the apartment that may come up in the future.

To answer your question with any specificity, you'll need to add other factors of what your looking for in a rental such as # beds, baths garage important or not etc.
