How hard or easy is it to care for aluminum homes? Won't they rust? Are they easy to maintain? Can you?

Michelle,

I had aluminum siding on my home in Detroit. On the plus side, it was very easy to clean. This website explains siding care.

Potential pitfalls. Theft by metal thieves, and on older siding paint leaching down onto bricks leaving a colored residue. Aluminum oxidizes, but does not rust. If you have damage from wind those sections would need to be replaced, you cannot remove the bend in the metal.

Here is a video on painting aluminum siding.

There are exceptions to every rule, Michelle, but yes aluminum can most often be painted, and needs to be on the exterior of the home. The largest pitfall to aluminum, as opposed to vinyl or wood, is that aluminum dents easy. A higher maintenance item, but one can change the color of it as opposed to vinyl.

Good luck
