Plant bare-root trees, shrubs, and perennials such as hostas and daylilies by early spring. Transplant container-grown plants anytime during the growing season except midsummer; be sure to water them thoroughly.

I have used 1 thing the last 2 years in my raised beds and it has made a world of difference. Lobster Compost.

Use good soil. Always make sure the plants have proper sun or what is required.
