Bettie,
You didn't include an address, but you can find out easy enough. On the page with the listing you're asking about is a map. Above the map are tabs including "Amenities". Click on this tab and expand the map with the plus sign until you see some options. This will show you restaurants, gas stations, stores etc. You can also load the address into any map site like Google or Bing and ask directions to whatever you like. ... more

The Depot Planning District is an area in the central part of Memphis. The bounderies are South Parkway and Southern Ave. to the north, Prescott and South Highland to the east, I-240 to the south and I-240 and the IC Railroad to the west. The name comes from the former Army Depot which is nearly in the center of the district. ... more

I have a rental house at 1839 Felix and get $1,100 a month for a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath. That particular area is not bad as it is near Barksdale. The further you get away from Barksdale and the closer you get to McLean the area declines. Once you cross McLean, forget about it. That part of 38114 is very spotty, you would need to drive the area and make a judgement call. ... more

Hi, Peachez. A realtor will give the spiel that they all do about owning a home, regardless of the neighborhood. I have lived in the Humes Heights neighborhood in the Depot Planning District for 31 years and raised my children here. This is an area of mostly nice, smaller homes next to the beautiful Chickasaw Gardens and lake. It is convenient to Downtown, Midtown and East Memphis. The neighbors are friendly. The downside is that this area lies between two high-crime areas and we get a lot of traffic on foot and in cars from both areas and we have a lot of crime, including numerous home invasions and robberies. There is a lot of noise from trains, depending on what street you live on, and also we are on the flight path of the airport and FedEx, whose plains begin takeoff at 10:00 nightly and go for hours. We get some undesirable traffic, esp. at the north end of Humes, most weekend nights from the Senses nightclub. My home has lost a lot of value over the last five years, as have most homes. ... more

Not if you are within a block or two of the train tracks. Humes Heights is also on the flight path and the airplanes are quite noisy all night with FedEx planes. There is a medium amount of traffic on Humes. The small houses allow a bit of noise to penetrate, esp. in the mornings. ... more
