I'm doing my research now before I start. Just went to the first workshop on July 8th 2017 in Oakland area. Sounds awesome!! So I guess depending on who is working with you will determine your experience. Naca requires volunteers which means they are pushed to help out without any real education. So if you get somebody who isn't getting compensated they can careless giving you a hard time. That is what I am assuming from reading all of this. Just WOW!! I want a well qualified and pleasant counselor to work with and help me understand and get through this. Not sure if I want to pay the $25 dues every year? And to have headaches for how many more months or years. ... more

Yes, lately there has been a problem with crime in the Villa Place/Edgehill Village area. As someone who has lived there for this past year, this has been an adjustment, but what is important to remember is that these are probably happening due to the neighborhood's recent gentrification. BUYER BEWARE! I worked with a True Homes sales agent for over a month to build my new home. We had weekly contact while I waited for a lot to become available. When the time came to select one, I was only shown lots, according to the sales agent, that would fit the house I planned to build. While I waited for True Homes to release the lot for sale, I was told in order to write contract on contingency my current home needed to be listed on the market BEFORE we could move forward. Following the instructions of the sales agent, I listed my home one week prior to my appointment to write contract. Less than 24 hours before my appointment I was told the house I planned to build would not fit on the lot. Three weeks passed between the time True Homes had me pick out a lot and my scheduled appointment. How in the world did they just realize the day before I was due to write contract that the house would not fit on the lot?

To make matters worse, I received an offer over asking for my current home. I now had to either sell my home or pay my real estate agent's $5,500 commission out of pocket.

I informed True Homes of my dilemma. I asked them to check and see if there were any lots in a future phase that would accommodate the house I wanted to build. True Homes would not provide an answer to that question. They did not offer an explanation. They did not acknowledge the position I was put in. They did not apologize. They did not offer to work with me to provide a resolution. They simply replied, "True Homes will not make any commitments to you at this time."

I am a victim of of their bad business practices. Communities are planned out well in advance. Builders know the exact size of every lot and what homes will accommodate them. It is inexcusable that we got this far in the process before this grave mistake was discovered. No one should ever be put in the position I was put in.

At the very least I should have been given an apology and offered an explanation. If True Homes was the company of integrity they claim to be on their website, they would have worked with me on a resolution.
