Yes, GWHS is the high school in the city of Danville. It is a terrible school, in my opinion. If you plan on moving to the area, it would be your best bet to look for property in Pittsylvania County, the schools are much better in the county.... more
I dunno...how about 25.6% of the city's population live in poverty,
how about a city whose African american population is 49.4%....but whose jail population is 80% african american
How about this........"only black men have been sentenced to death in Danville, the self-styled "Last Capital of the Confederacy." (source: http://www.truthinjustice.org/danville.htm )
Interestingly, the city uses its jail population to cut grass and clean up city parks, waste treatment facilities, public utilities sites etc........
This is great in concept, but in application......the jail is at about 20% capacity from November until about March- at which time the population increases five fold to meet the labor demand......
So either crime just doesn't happen in the winter months, our criminals all head south for the winter, or the city uses it's courts and police department to create the instant, cheap labor force needed to maintain its facilities and grounds........
"The Outside Work Force (with male trustees) works with Parks and Recreation by performing:
Total upkeep and maintenance of playgrounds in Danville
Total upkeep and maintenance of ball fields in Danville" (source: http://www.danville-va.gov/index.aspx?NID=442 )
When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors.
