Kathy's right, real estate agents cannot comment on whether a particular area is a good or bad area. Everyone's perception is different. You have to make the decision on what you consider an acceptable living environment.

If you find a suitable rental house and you're just not sure of the area my recommendation is to visit the property at different times during the day and see if you are comfortable with the neighborhood activity. Other things to consider for your comfort level; does the property have a garage, is it alarm ready, is there a fenced in yard, do the neighbors have pride of ownership and etc.

I am a Broker/Owner of my own company and I teach this info to my agents. The question you ask could have an agent violate the Federal Fair Housing laws. The information you ask for is subjective in nature. While some people might like that area, others might not. There is crime everywhere.

The best thing to do it go their yourself, see the area, talk to neighbors, look around on the internet. I won't give you speciic websites as that in and of itself could be a violation depending on the information that is on it or might be missing. There are plenty of good sites around.

I'm a single, white female and I've been living in Benton Park (63118) for the past four years. Prior to living in this area, I was in Richmond Heights. I love this neighborhood!!! Great restaurants, close to downtown, and near all the major highways. As for crime... Theft is the biggest concern. I've never personally been robbed, but I always make sure not to leave anything "visible" inside my car, I lock up my bicycle in the back yard, and I keep my home locked.

That is a question that real estate agents should not be addressing. There are web sites, however, that you can go to for that information. However, I always encourage my clients to talk to residents of the neighborhood in which they have an interest. If I can be of any further help, please send me an email to ronaldgorman@me.com

Check with the local police precinct of the neighborhood in which you are considering living in. It is also helpful to get a feel for the neighborhood by driving through the area after work, on weekends, during the day (if possible).

Good luck!
