Hi Vicki. I tried to provide you with a property profile that included the crime states for this area, but it turned out the link expired as soon as I logged out of my account. You can go the the link the Jim provided for KCRA and just put the property address in (including "Antelope, CA") and it will pull up the crime stats within 400 meters of the property address. I tried it myself and it worked.
I think the best way for you to find out about how safe a particular neighborhood is by calling the local sheriff's and police departments. They can tell you exactly how many calls they have had in a particular area and what kind of calls they usually get. I tried to pull up the crime stats for the address you provided, but the server for the service that I use is down right now. You can look at the reports for starters, but in the end I think talking to someone in law enforcement who works the area is the best way to get a feel for an area.
I am familiar with that particular area, but you have to understand that real estate agents have to be very careful with what they say as we can't tell you if an area is good or bad. I know that may sound silly to you, but it's called steering and is illegal. I will usually tell my clients that they should contact the sheriff's department to inquire and I'll give them the property profile with the crime statistics. I would also recommend that you check Megan's law to see if any sex offenders reside in the area (here's the site info http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov
). You can also subscribe to http://www.neighorhoodscout.com
and get crime stats for any area in the U.S. (it's a $19.95 fee for a 7-day period). I hope this helps.
