Is there a reason you post two words and a rental listing in the Village? Roosevelt island is not in the East Village and the rental is likely a scam as there is no description, address and a picture of a school.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Real estate professionals are not allowed to answer these questions because of Fair Housing.
You can go to the local precinct and ask for the crime stats. Another thing you can do is visit the area you are interested in at different times, mornings, early evenings and late evenings.

Safety can sometimes be measured by your ability to be cognizant of your surroundings...

You're serviced by one subway line the "F" train and the Tram that goes to E.59th St at 2nd Ave. I rented there and there are some very nice apartments there. They're not giving anything away as most rentals are market rate.

Is it a safe environment? that is for you to decide. Good luck.

Everybody's notion of "safe" is different. I would suggest you contact the local police precinct for crime stats. I would also suggest you visit the neighborhood at various times of day and night and see how you feel in your surroundings.
