Hi Leila...

I've lived in Folsom now since 1989... and It's a great area...

We do have the usual stuff like maybe some one having their car in their driveway broken into at night (that's why we have garages) and that sort of stuff.

However.. if you plan on leaving the area for that long a period, I suggest you get a house sitter to come out and stay... if you have a pet that's a great thing because you will find a house sitter will take care of your pet as well and cheaper than if you put it in a kennel somewhere...

Also when you go on a long term vacation like that, just go to both sides of your house and across the street and let folks know you won't be there.

I don't think you can escape some kind of crime no matter where you live... I've been here in Folsom this long and the only thing I ever had stolen was a bike and that was 16 years ago.

I hope this helps...

Make it a Great Day...!

Hi Leila,

I think the first two responses offered solid advice and I don't have anything to add. I just wanted to say, welcome to the area. Folsom is a fantastic community. There are a tremendous number of positives to living in Folsom. I hope after you find a place you are comfortable with and have lived here awhile, you will feel the same way. Best wishes and once again, WELCOME.

Above is the link to the Folsom website, there is also Sacramento County website that gives you a map of crime and type of crimes committed in the county. Let me know if you need more assistance. I live in Folsom and can say that I feel safe. I think it might be the safest place to live in the County. I think that where you are looking might be not as desirable as some locations within Folsom. Yes, there is crime in every city, but compare to other areas, Folsom is desirable...You can call me to find out which areas are the best to live in. Eloise 916-548-0812

All public authorities are also restricted from steering, Leila.

Crime is everywhere, especially with these hard economic times. The question is what type of crime you are concerned about. Folsom is considered a highly desirable area and I'm not sure I know of a 'bad area' of town like other towns. Do your research beyond the reportings by talking to the neighbors, driving the area at different times of the day and night, and also on weekends to get familiar with how the neighborhood operates. Then find some that feel most comfortable to you.

Crime is often minimized by having an active neighborhood who are concerned about each other. It is not as related to the price of the homes.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods.
