Soheila, you should personally visit the area and make your own conclusions on how you feel about the area. You may want to visit the police department and ask questions. There are various sources on the net that can also help you to evaluate what you are looking for, including sources on my site. Good Luck.

rogers park is nice. However. It is Chicago. Just be careful no matter where you are.

I wouldn't trust the testimonial of one who can't even correctly spell Rogers Park. "Roger Park"? Seriously?

I've lived in Rogers Park since 2002, and have watched it steadily deteriorate. Gang-infested; lots of open-air drug-dealing and gun crime. Be very, very careful when choosing a place - and the neighborhoods can go downhill fast. (plus the area has never gentrified at all.)

The best source for this information it the local police department or the county sheriff's department. They have access to the bost current and accurate informtaion and are normally very willing to be helpful.

Good luck

I'm a petite blonde single female and I've lived in East Rogers Park one block north of Jarvis for just over a year now. Rogers Park is funky because one block can feel like suburbia and the next is a bit sketchy, but nothing comes close to Austin or the South Side. They recently redid the Howard el station, so even that isn't so bad at night, though like ANYWHERE in the city, you're better off not walking home alone at 4 in the morning. That being said, I've never felt like I was in any danger walking home from the Jarvis stop at night.

Honestly, I love Rogers Park. There's true diversity, with people from all over the age, economic, racial, and ethnic spectra, and everybody walks their dogs together and chat in the grocery store together and says hi on the street. And then you have the beach and the lake RIGHT THERE and they never get anywhere near as crowded as downtown.

Good luck!

I know this was written in 2009; however, I was looking around on-line and happen to see this VERY UNINFORMED opinion.

Apparently Miss Petite Blonde has gotten her information re the South Side from only the media or perhaps some other skewed source. Within the South Side, like Rogers Park, reside a variety of personality types, a range of ethic groups of varying socio-economic levels, historic landmarks, interesting neighborhoods and yes! Even great schools. So please, as the initial respondent suggested: do your own due diligence-- and be informed beyond what the ill informed have indicated herein.
Flag Sat Apr 13, 2013 has more than 30 videos of Rogers Park at YouTube. I've linked a playlist below, which should give you a better view of the neighborhood.
