What are the statistics in your area for assault and sexual assault as well as breaking and entry?

Asked by Winstonchurchill, Myers Park, Charlotte, NC Mon Jun 25, 2012

I have a lady friend who will be moving into your neighborhood and I was greatly concerned for her personal safety when she is in her soon to be place to lay her head. I would like some peace of mind that she will have some peace of mind about people breaking into her place in the middle of the night or otherwise.

By law, Real Estate agents cannot "pass judgment" on crime in any given neighborhood. We encourage our clients to be proactive and check crime stats themselves. I agree with everyone thatSpotcrime.com/nc is a great tool. I also suggest that clients drive through target neighborhoods on the weekends. Stop and chat with the neighbors - they will tell you everything! Best success!

In Mecklenburg County I've found the best way to track crime statistics is to utilize the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's crime mapping application which tracks all 911 calls. Here's the link: http://maps.cmpdweb.org/cmpdnet/agreement.aspx?ref=map

One of the best sites is spotcrime.com/nc for those kind of statistics. Another way to find out information like that is to call the local police department station in the area she wants to move and ask them what the crime is like in an area.
