Diane,

That is definitely a subjective question that no Realtor can answer simply because legally that would be imposing my/our values on another. That said I do respect a Mom's concern and my suggestion to you, as to anyone who has asked me this type of question over the years, is to call the police station. There is a community liaison officer who you could speak with to get more information. Jones' Hill also has a pretty tight neighborhood association and you can probably find some info on line. The Dorchester Reporter also has a link to crime statistics and will give you a visual as to what has gone on over the past month or so.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

Crime is all relative to what you're used to. No Realtor is allowed to comment on crime and safety. You will need to check the police reports for the area. I highly recommend walking around the area and talking to people. I would recommend waiting till after 5p and catch the commuters climbing up the hill from Savin Hill train station. In the past Jones Hill experienced some good growth and sales, but Downer is just off the main part of the hill and it is probably best to ask a lot of people. Just asking 1 person, or 1 policeman is never adequate. It is important to remember this is a very urban part of the city and one should always use common sense whether a male or a female. Your daughter should be using a Buyer's Agent who is well versed with the area. There is no cost for this service and if you can get a good agent it is invaluable. I recommend Joe Schutt with Gibson. He lives in the area and is a real pro. Tell him Will B. sent you!

Crime is definatley what the person is used to....I refer to city crime reports and to go after hours to see what the neighborhood is like at diffferent parts of the day.
