Trulia has a great page set up on their site that provides crime stats and local info. Check it out and use this as a tool to help your decisions.

Hi Marnie...The Missions is a very beautiful, safe and exclusive neighborhood located in the master planned community of Ivey Ranch (which borders Rancho Del Oro). It is convienantly located near El Camino Real which alows you to commute to Carlsbad in 10 minutes or less. It offers exclusive homes over 2000 sq.ft. both single story and 2 story. The homes in this neighborhood are homes that you would find in Carlsbad however you would pay far less. Not only do I specialize in Ivey Ranch/Rancho Del Oro, I also have reside in Ivey Ranch for the last 4 years and I love where I live.I have young children that attend the local elementary school and couldn't be happpier or feel any safer...not to mention Ivey Ranch is a Blue Ribbon accredited school.

Rancho del Oro also offers incredible homes and wonderful neighborhoods! I have attached a link to search homes on my Ivey Ranch/Rancho Del Oro website...please feel free to explore the homes @

I hope this post has been helpful.

Please feel free to contact me via phone or email.

very safe
I lived near there for years. It's not in the valley and it's gated.

Marnie,
I'm sorry that your question has gone unanswered this long.
If you are still interested I would highly recommend using Trulia's crime map to view the areas crime history.
You can find it at
http://www.trulia.com/crime
then click on the upper right side the pull down menu for San Diego. Next drag the map to the North County section that you are interested in.
If you roll over the dots it will show you what kind of crimes have occurred near there.
I am familiar with the greater RDO/Ivey Ranch region in Oceanside and it has been considered desireable and safe by my clients.

But please note that Real Estate Agents are discouraged from "Blockbusting" particular neighborhoods with negative remarks and they are discouraged from "Steering" clients into specific neighborhoods as well - so it's sometimes an eggshell subject when you ask about "safety".

If you would like more local advice - I would be happy to speak with you. Welcome to Southern California
