Is Ogden Avenue, Jersey City safe?

Asked by Shirish Wagh, Jersey City, NJ Mon Jan 5, 2009

I am getting a good place in Ogden with the nice Manhatten and Hoboken views. I will be walking daily from 2nd street light rail station to this place. Is this area safe to live with the family? To come back walking after 8:00 PM in the evening?

I have lived on Ogden Avenue for over 10 years and love it! Rarely feel unsafe. The block has watchful neighbors, great people!

It's generally quiet, although it depends where on Ogden you are looking. Closer to Congress Street is generally more desirable than going the other direction (especially near Franklin St). However, in general I would say it's safe - not Hoboken/Washington St safe, just keep your wits about you and you should be fine.

Jersey City heights is a relatively sleepy area. I go running, often late at night, and that stretch along the ridge that overlooks Hoboken is uneventful.

I recommend you speak with the Jersey City Police Department for a crime report in that area. You can always find crime reports on Google if you search around.

Here is the JCPD website.

You also may want to walk the area at night if you are concerned.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
