Dear Bedoc4:

You need to investigate the area and draw your own conclusion. This is a very opinionated question and as they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. You need to do research on crime statistics and schools (do that on Google).

You should also spend some time in the area and check out the "lay of the land" so to speak. You should do that in the daytime, nighttime, late at night and on the weekend if possible. If you are that unsure or concerned about it, invest the extra time to make sure you do not make a mistake.

Good luck!

I agree with visitng the area and spending some time there during the day and in the evening. There are generally plenty of people walking along Eastern Parkway, and you can see with type of stores there are, and stop in to talk to people, to see how comfortable you are with the area. If you see people walking with children, which you might if you go today or tomorrow because the schools are closed for vacation, you can try to stop and talk to them, or find a local park where people might be bringing their children to play.
Of course checking out statistics directly with the police department is always good.

Hi Bedoc4 - This area has alot of revitalization going on and values are on the rise. But as far
as any safety issues I strongly agree with my co-realtor Anna: do check out the websites she gave
you, and visit the area daytime and evening. Go to the local school and talk to the parents. Good

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.
