It's a great neighborhood! There are a few spots outside of limits that are really in other neighborhoods (Oak Park) but Land Park and sister Curtis Park are no brainers if you like established and classic 1920's to 1940's neighborhoods.

When I'm not sure about a neighborhood I suggest that my clients look up crime rates on line . I also knock on doors and ask the neighbors what they think of their hood.

Why call the local police department when you can check out the crime statistics using websites like this? https://www.crimereports.com/ If you're not familiar with the area, drive the neighborhood during the day and at night (especially Fri and Sat nights).

When I bought my house I knocked on neighbor's doors asking them how long they have lived there and if they have any issues with the neighborhood. Neighbors will usually be very candid. If you don't have the time to do that take a Google virtual tour using Street View and "drive" down the streets from the comforts of your own home :) Land Park is a very desirable area to live due to it's charm and its proximity to downtown and William Land Park. Lots of families live there.

I would always recommend you call the local police department directly to get accurate crime stats for any area you are thinking about buying a home in.

My suggestion is to call/email the local sheriff's office. Also, if you have the opportunity, go know on some of the neighbor's doors - people love to give you the low down on neighborhood gossip. If you would like to know more about the schools calling them directly is your best option.

As mentioned below, we aren't allowed to steer you one way or the other, but we can give you resources for you to discover the answers for yourself :)

If concerned about safety, your best source of accurate and up to the minute information are the local authorities, consider a visit/call and ask all your questions, hear all firsthand; also do visit the area more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors, then make a determination.

Heather,
In addition to http://www.kcra.com/crime/index.html you can also drive the neighborhood at night,on various days, walk the blocks you like--there are different vibes in different areas of Land Park--East or West of Riverside, or South Land Park, or proximity to Broadway. I personally think that they are all lovely, but it is my opinion. I've lived in areas and felt safe whereas my friends thought I was nuts for living there! And I have friends who don't lock their doors during the day in areas I think they are nuts.

So check the crime data sites and see what you think, visit the areas, maybe ask the neighbors who might be out and about on the weekend how they feel.

Heather-

Land Park is adored for its beautiful tree lined streets, charming vintage homes, built in "community"
and proximity to everything. Having raised a family there myself as well as working in that community
I would be happy to speak with you about my opinion on individual areas of Land Park. My husband's family
has lived there for over 60 years. Call me at (916) 300-7028.

As Realtors, we have to be careful about answering questions like this, because it could be considered "steering" clients toward certain communities. So you may find that Realtors may not give you their direct opinion when it comes to questions about how safe or how "good" a neighborhood is, because we have to be careful to adhere to the Realtor code of ethics. One website that I have found very helpful is http://www.kcra.com/crime/index.html. You can input an address and it will give you the crime information within a radius that you choose.

Hello Heather,
What a beautiful area!
Please keep in mind when you are searching for safety..some of the reports are up to 9 months old.
Yes..Not always current. Your best bet is to talk to neighbors, visit the area at various times through the week. Friday evening, Saturday mornings, etc. See for yourself what is happening.

I have clients in the Land Park area now and they will only search for homes in that neighborhood.
What they love:
1. Proximity to downtown
2. Close to all freeways
3. Great schools
4. Parks, outdoor activities
5. Mature landscaping
6. Every house is unique

Good luck in your search.

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.
