When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

The school assigned to this area is Washington Elementary. The distance is a bit far to walk. But the distance to the train station is very close. An easy walk.
This area is a huge attraction to NYC commuters - most people commuting specifically try to get in this area. Its very close to the Elizabeth Elmora section.

Home sales in this area Range based on condition.

I have seen homes priced low that need to be renovated Capes at 200k in 2013
and Homes newly renovated at 300 -350k So the range is quite large.
The new construction is going 390,400k+

This area is also very close to the YMCA - They have a great summer program as well.

Hi. I am a home owner of this area. I am located right behind Kean University on Lynmar Way. I can say that this area is safe and quiet. I have been living here for about 8 years. Moved here from Walnut Creek California. I am still amazed at what you can get for your money in Union 07083 compared to other areas I have lived. The reason we are here is because of the Union train station it takes my wife 45 minutes to get to the world trade center area where she works. The commute into Manhattan is not bad at all. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your insight; it was vert helpful. It is now 2017 and I am looking at homes in your area -- particularly Palisade Road. If you still live in the area, I wondered if you might know if those streets are used as cut-throughs by students and employees at Kean. And are the weekends loud with games at the nearby stadium? I've lived near schools and firehouses and am simply looking for a quiet neighborhood. Thank you for any advice you can offer!

Hi Indu,

There are many lovely neighborhoods and new complexes in this area. Anna is correct that real estate agents cannot give you opinions about what is "safe" and "not safe." We can suggest resources for gathering this information but there is nothing like seeing for yourself and talking to people in the neighborhood.

There are sought after grade schools in Union and you can learn more about schools from sites such as http://www.greatschools.net/ or http://www.twpunionschools.net/

If you would like more infomation or to see some homes in the area, I would be happy to assist. I have sold homes in Union to a number of satisfied buyers.

Hello Indu, Anna is correct as realtors we cannot tell someone if a area is good or bad. The steps that she has outlined is a great way to gather information in order to make a decision. I have been a realtor for over seven years and have lived in Union no too far from Kean for the past 18 years. I hope the inf you get helps and if you decide to move here we welcome you. Good luck
