I am about to attend LB State for grad school and am looking to rent an apt in a safe but fun area. Any suggestions on where? Safe = operative word!

A lot of good area suggestions, I would suggest that when you pick where you would like to live, drive there during the day and in the evening to get a better feel of the place and then rent!

Belmont Shore is the place. Fun. Safe is state of mind. Look what happened yesterday.

Sounds like Barbara Robbins has a nice place coming up for rent. Rent is right too.

If you are looking for specific crime statistics in Long Beach, the police department posts them on a monthly basis on the city website (http://www.longbeach.gov/police/statistics.asp). The city is broken down into several hundred areas that cover just a few blocks each. You can get lost in the details.

The best way to know about a neighborhood is to speak with the neighbors. And remember, what one person may consider a safe, nice neighborhood, may not be what everyone considers a safe, nice neighborhood, and vice versa. Good luck in your search for a place to call home, while you complete your degree. Dare to Dream.

Check with the local police department to see if they offer recommendations, or specific crime stats.

Let me know if you have any questions.

The area around Cal State Long Beach is pretty nice. There is a high concentration of students and you will almost always find someone to walk home with you after classes.

Of course, if you don't mind a bit of a bike ride, or you have a car, I would choose Belmont Heights, Belmont Shore, Belmont Peninsula or Naples. Not only are these great neighborhoods, but they are also by the beach, a great place to go when you need to be creative or just need fresh air to keep you awake while you are studying. These areas are also filled with great restaurants, coffee shops, and coffee houses, for those late night study sessions.

Welcome to Long Beach. One of the best sources for rentals is the Grunion Gazette. It is free and covers my favorite areas. Dare to Dream.

Good Morning! I actually have a one bedroom condo at 3609 E. 2nd St. available Feb. 1st. It is a 1 bed,1bath top floor unit with a private balcony with a view. It is a great area and walking distance to the beach, belmont shore shops and restaurants. It is $1195/month and if you are interested feel free to give me a call.

Dear Hodad924,
My suggestion would be Park Estates. There are several apartment buildings there on Anaheim. You can walk or ride your bike to school, and you have easy access to the beach, Second Street, shopping and the freeways to get around Southern California. My wife and I live close to Park Estates, and we love the area. If you are not currently living in Long Beach, and need more info on exactly where Park Estates is, send me an email or give me a call.

Best of luck,
