This looks like a year old post, but it's still relevant, so I figured I'd answer anyway.

Bayview definitely isn't the safest neighborhood in SF, but there are many people who live there, and I personally know a few who live there and like it a lot.

It's always best to get a feel for a neighborhood yourself and see how you personally feel in any given area before making a decision to move.

As far as crime reports go, here is my favorite site: http://www.crimemapping.com/map/ca/sanfrancisco

Hope this helps anyone with a similar question!

Diane--Your posting was published a while back, but I thought I'd jump in. Bayview is one of the more crime-ridden neighborhoods in San Francisco, so it's important to be aware of those details prior to considering moving there.

There have been many improvements over the past few years in Bayview, from new condo developments being constructed to restaurants and other businesses opening. Some blocks are definitely better than others.

The Chronicle ran a good article about the area today (9/6/13):

Many Bayview homes are receiving multiple offers from buyers looking for single-family homes for under the $1M average in San Francisco. Depending on your price range, there could be other options. Happy to chat if you are still looking.--Eileen

Hi Diane,

Generally, yes: Bayview is considered pretty high crime. As a mom, wouldn't be my first choice neighborhood.

Trulia's crime maps give you a pretty good overview of recently reported issues: http://www.trulia.com/local#crimes/bayview-san-francisco

My opinion aside, there was an article in the Chronicle earlier this month about Bayview that may help you: http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Reinventing-the-B…

Good luck!

Diane, there is a map located toward the bottom of the listing. Scroll down to it and then click on the "crime" tab. If you want to see more specific information about crime in that or any other San Francisco neighborhood try
