The immediate area in The Crossings is very nice and convenient location with all the shopping stores like Safeway, the San Antonio Center and the 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport. The best judge on a neighborhoood is good is actually you. You can talk with people that live in the area or you can spend time in the area to jugde for yourself. I think that the crime rate in general, in Mountain View is pretty low. However, the best people to ask would be the police department, feel free to call them and get the data from them. They are very helpful and friendly.
I think that the immediate area in The Crossings is very nice and neighborhoodly. It is also convenient being around all the shopping with Safeway, the San Antonio Center and the 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport. The apartments nearby The Crossings, towards Rengstorff, look a bit sketchy. However, I think that the crime rate in general, across Mountain View is pretty low.
unfortunately a Realtor can only advise you as to where to go to get this information. Only you can be the judge of whether a neighborhood is good or not. It would be highly un-ethical and against the law for a Realtor to tell you "this is a bad neighborhood" it is called "steering". In addition to the other suggestions you may want to Knock on doors and talk with neighbors, talk with mail deliverer, Insurance providers (rates are higher in "bad neighborhoods" .) Police officers who patrol.
The Crossings have lots of families, young children, parks, and people walking to the shopping areas. Plenty of people do it. as far as crime stats, you can get those from the police. It is a wonderful neighborhood.
The short of it is to go to http://www.crimereports.com. Input the address and the time frame and a map will show you all the crime in that area based on your time frame. It's a good resource for questions about local crime in our communities.
Your best source of information regarding safety is the local police department; why not call/visit and ask all your questions, they'll gladly help. You may also wish to visit the area more than once and at different times of day and look at anything that is important to you--if the opportunity arises chat with the locals.
