Try a free service called Everyblock.com. You put in the areas you are specifically interested in and you get DAILY updates . The updates include upcoming events, news and crime is the area.

Yes, neighborhoodscout.com is a good resource however, it requires a subscription fee to get all the information. spotcrime.com is free.

You can have crime alerts for your neighborhood or any area sent to your email. Go to spotcrime.com.
