Are any of the drug crimes in the immediate area of the house, i.e. right across the street, next door, down the block, etc.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Of course there's a lot of crime - it's Northeast PA... I have lived in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, combined 48 years. They are similar in the crime rates. At times, you can walk around downtown Scranton... but only during business hours. NOBODY who doesn't have money in the rental game would recommend walking around any of these areas for long.
Of course, you must read between the lines and look at the "demographics" involved in the crimes and the area where those types of people tend to congregate. Unfortunately, so many scummy landlords take section 8, jack up the rental prices since they are guaranteed money from the govt, and then could not care less who ends up next door to you.... this is the typical everyday life in Scranton. I let my ex have the house since we could not sell it to anybody except a few illegal families that would have paid cash but much less than what the (underassessed) value would have been. With so many convicted sexual predators in the W.B/Scranton area living all around you (just check the Megan's Law tracking websites)... and so many thugs and hoodies with their entitlement gimme your stuff lifestyles... good luck here.

It is always a good idea to check the local police department to get that kind of information. I am originally from NYC (25 years ago) & I find Scranton to be a great city with lots to do (Theater, Philharmonic, first Friday, lots of activities for families, singles, kids, adults, art enthusiasts & much more). Let me know if you would like to see a particular property or if you need the number for the Scranton Police.

Hello Yesikan,

As realtors, we are not supposed to discuss safety of any particular area.
Check out,,crimereports,, for the crime info. You can also check the area where you are living now (if statistics are similar, then the new area should be similar to where you are now).

Also, it's great to drive by the area in question at night - to get a feeling for the vibe there.

Hope this helps,
