In addition to what was mentioned below, read your "pre-approval" letter and it will state the disclaimers and conditions in order for money to be lent to you. Many will specifically state that this is not a guarantee to loan you money (or language similar to this)

Illinois is a recourse state. This means that banks and lenders in general, have the right to get a default order and then can attempt to collect any monies owed to them. This may included garnising your wages. Only an attorney can give you the legal advise.... more
