Hi Docdaniel,

I have answered your question in a comment to your additional answer, but will duplicate it here for the benefit of the community.

This is a very personal preference at this stage in your life. However, you still may benefit from homeownership, due to the fact that most likely you'll have a down payment to give on a property if you decide to BUY. Usually, the dilemma of rent vs. buy comes up due to a lack of a down payment, and the question of 'rent vs buy' is formulated related to WHEN can I buy? With your likely situation and the ability to give a down payment, you'll have automatic equity in your home which can be a huge benefit if you make an educated purchase (as in, a property that will hold it's value well over the next few years). And, the flip side of view is the 'quicker mobility' that renting often provides, in case your needs change and a move is needed. However, with renting, you are always losing money over the long run (like the difference between a term life insurance policy and a policy that builds cash value). Best of luck in making this decision! ... more
