I am a current Allen and former Mckinney resident. From my perspective Allen is friendlier and more socially cohesive. Because the entire town plan was more based on keeping amenities centrally located and shared. 75 splits the town in half, but unlike Mckinney there is little stigma to living on the eastside or in one of the few non mc mansion homes on the westside. Allen is more comfortable in its skin and doesn't try as hard as Mckinney to get noticed. It's more of a hidden gem that is a 2nd move location after arriving in Collin County. You land in Mckinney, Frisco or Plano as default relo-villes. But, once your here you wish you would have started in Allen. Allen really has grown up to still feel like a small town that you can live happily in cradle to grave. Allen is more evenly highly educated and ethnically diverse community that interacts across lines. Mckinney is more defined by the location, income and the subdivision you belong to. ... more

Hi Dusty,

I used to live in California and am currently living in Allen. I've been here for about 10 years now. Both cities that you mentioned are wonderful to live and good for family with children. I would say both cities pretty much have the same pace and nice neighbors.

Feel free to connect with me if you have any questions. I think there's no better way but to connect with someone who has lived in both areas to assist you. My references are available upon request or you can check part of my client's endorsement at LinkedIn.

Best schools, best parks, and best of many things!
California does not even come close as far as living expenses, housing prices, and fresh air and less traffic congestion comparing to California. I also moved from California to Plano in 2005.

Hi Howard and Pascal!

I was just showing this community to out of town guests the other day! Beazer has some great incentives right now. What I would recommend would be dependent of course, upon what you're looking for. Feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance. I live in Mckinney as well :)

The differences vary depending on the specific home you purchase. The tax rate is the city, county, school, college, and hospital, and what ever other special taxing district that exists. So, you could have a home in frisco with plano schools, carrollton schools, little elm schools, etcetera. Let me know if you need sorting out a certain house. Keith W Hefner

Since crime can happen in any zip code, a licensed Realtor can not comment on an area being "safe" or not.

I have a link on my website that people have told me has been very helpful to them. You can compare zip codes and you'll see the demographics, crime-statistics, etc. Hope this is helpful for you:

Go to, then go to "insights" and from there you can compare zip codes.
