Shopping areas are located on main streets where visibiity is good and space allows for a small cluster of stores. There are many of these local shopping clusters throughout the city. The major mall is the Sierra Vista Mall, located at the southeast corner of Shaw Avenue and Clovis Avenue, exxtending to Sunnyside Avenue. Sierra Vista offers many different types of stores and a new sixteen screen theater. Major renovation is underway at the mall, and when finished will provide an excellent area for foot traffic amid small shops, fountains and benches for relaxation. There is emphasis being placed on the small business owner at this time, in an effort to bring in more than just big box stores and retain the small town feeling. Good business and financial planning is also offered to small business owners by the city, to help them grow and prosper. Techology is the newest area that the City of Clovis is supporting with citizen involvement, in the effort to further worldwide communications. The area of technology offers higher wages, cleaner businesses, and a way to keep the youth of the area from relocating to larger cities. Great things are on the horizon in this area for Clovis, such as a technology conference in October of this year with possible expansion into future years.
