Hi Alice--I hope you've found somewhere to live by now. Unfortunately there are many underhanded ways that they can discriminate without actually coming right out and saying that they won't accept it. They can say that "it is privately owned and the owner does not want to participate." that you need to make 3 to 4X the amount of the rental property(not a whole lot of those around, yeah right) or just flat o out refuse and really don't care. They don't care because you don't have time to mess around with complaints, lawsuits, etc when you now have only 3 months to find an apartment, get it approved, and then move in, almost like a built in fail system. I believe it is all deliberate to keep Chicago segragated, to not let you get your foot in the door of better housing and to steer low income residents, at least the Black ones into areas that most don't want to move to. Have you noticed that you don't see Caucasians living in Englewood, the West Side, Roseland, or any of these bad areas? So what is really going on here. It is sad that in Chicago it is always the same old same old and also that the ones who abused the program are now the "Face of Section *" because some of us only want and need simply a fair chance just to get back on our feet. Good luck!... more
Contact the Chicago Police Department for this inquiry. Having said that, I lived most of my life in East and West Rogers Park. My best opinion is that WEST Rogers Park is better than east epecailly west of Western Ave and North of Pratt Ave.

If you are in the market still, there are many great places to call home. Most landlords have credit and income qualifications. You may be able to offer a larger security deposit to offset your credit situation.
best of luck.... more
That should not be a problem. Most landlords have credit and income minimum qualifications. It would be best to find two or three that mayy work for you and talk to the landlord about your situation.
Best of luck.... more
I think that they could probably rent it out for this purpose, just as long as they have made it clear that they are using it as an office. It will depend on the contract and all the conditions made with the owner. If the owner is fine with it, then I would say it should be fine. However, it might be better for them to be in a location that is near other offices that is more related to business. Then they might get better business and be in a more accessible location. http://www.theprofessionalcentre.com... more
Zohir, It's likely that the apartment that you see available now will not be on the market in June. You should reach out to a Realtor when you are readying to come to Chicago and let that person know what you are looking for. He or she will be able to assist you in pinpointing the properties that best meet your criteria. Good Luck!... more
