Hey Suzanne! Both of those areas are pretty well established already. Reunion in the newest one. The East Brainerd area is definitely getting heavier with traffic since people are moving out there. I grew up in that area and have noticed the increase on the two lane road. There are talks about expanding it though. Those have always been pretty safe bets if you want a family neighborhood, and they are secluded enough that you don't get random drive ins! ... more

There is virtually no resale market for timeshare anymore. The market has collapsed and the stark truth is that most timeshares are worthless. Ebay is full of timeshare weeks unsold for only $1. The sellers would of course be quite happy to sell for even less just to rid themselves of timeshare. ... more

I think your best plan of action is to contact a Chattanooga Realtor closer to when you plan to move. Good rental homes especially go very quickly and the landlords are usually not willing to wait a month or two for the tenant. They want their properties leased immediately. I have worked with many rental clients and would be happy to show you around Chattanooga and help you with your search when you are ready. My company is Crye-Leike Realtors 423-870-5202 and my direct number is 423-424-8693. ... more

I appreciate all the responses and didn't know it's only realtors on this website. However, let me change my question a little bit since I now have lots of resources to refer in terms of schools. Thanks again.
What we are looking for is family communities/neighborhoods that offers city living such as condos/townhouses hopefully close to restaurants/shopping and maybe with a community pool. I didn't come across many, except one very expensive 3 bedroom apartment in North Chatt. Where should I concentrate my search or how should I go about looking for such a home?

Connie Lusk answered:
That will depend alot on your finances. There are some excellent schools near downtown, but they are expensive....Baylor, McCallie, GPS. Most folks who send their kids to these schools live on Signal Mtn or Lookout Mtn. On the other hand, some folks live just the across the state line in north GA, near the small town of Chickamauga & send their kids to Gordon Lee. Another good school & not expensive, as far as I know. But then you have to consider you will be paying GA income tax. TN does not have an income tax. ... more

Yes! A Realtor will guide you through the whole process from finding the right investment properties for you, to writing and negotiating the contract and finally fascilitating the closing process. A great Realtor will be able to point out potentially positive cash-flowing properties.
It does not cost you anything to work with a Realtor. The sellers have the commissions usually "built in" the sales price. Realtors don't get paid till the transaction is closed.

Knoxville is not far from Chattanooga, it is mostly a colledge town, so if you have a child, who wants to go there - it might be a reason to choose it. If not, I'd pick Chattanooga. It is not only beautiful around here, but also it's affordable, and with new businesses coming to the area, it is possible to find a job. And it is so easy to get anywhere - Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, you choose!
Good luck on making your decission - whichever it would be, you won't be dissapointed!
If you need any help with any place, please feel free to contact me at any time! I'm licensed in TN and GA. Best regards!

There are several great areas between Chattanooga and Dalton. The one thing that I would ask is, "What's really important to you?" Do you want to be close to shopping, dining and the interstate or would you be fine being a little further out?

My husband and I purchased property in LaFayette, GA several years ago. LaFayette is a small community, but we enjoy the slower pace. It is about 35-40 mins to Downtown Chattanooga and approximatley 20-25 mins to Dalton. There are areas closer to Chattanooga that have more "stuff" to do.
